Here's Your Love Poem

you said you swore you knew me in another life,

my blue eyes and crooked grin all too familiar

for this to be anything short of divine

I'm a firm believer in reincarnation and

so so desperate to believe

in a power bigger than myself

that I chose to see it in you

we met in Hawaii

wrapped in a sweet daydream

of kissing on beaches

and swimming at midnight

how could this not be fate

you said

how could this not be love

I knew better

in the deepest sense of my bones

that what I sought wasn't you

but you made escaping this

haunted shell of mine

seem so easy, so lovely

I built a home within you

Make no mistake here:

when I told you I loved you,

what I really meant was

I didn't love myself.
